HRH PRINCESS KATHERINE FOUNDATION SEVENTH ANNIVERSARY GALA DINNER

Belgrade, 9 December 2008. – Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine and Mrs. Alison Andrews, daughter of Princess Katherine hosted tonight at the White Palace a Charity Gala Dinner on occasion of the seventh anniversary of the HRH Princess Katherine Foundation.

Many friends and donors of the HRH Princess Katherine Foundation, who supported numerous humanitarian actions initiated by Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine over the years, attended this event supporting not only the humanitarian actions of Princess Katherine Foundation, but also a great project - the equipping of the newly opened Unit for Congenital Heart Diseases at Children’s Hospital in Tirsova. This action was a joint project of the HRH Princess Katherine Foundation, the Foundation of Prof. Dr. Afksendios Kalangos – A Heart for All, the Republic Fund for Health Insurance, the Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases at the Clinical Centre of Serbia and the University Children’s Clinic in Tirsova.

The Charity Gala Dinner was attended by Prof. dr. Afksendios Kalangos, Duchess Danielle de Royal Boucquoi, representatives of the Ministry of Health, members of the diplomatic corps, Royal Medical Board members, little Dejana and little Sara, young girls whose lives were saved thanks to Princess Katherine endeavours, as well as many donors and supporters of the Princess Katherine Foundation.

In the beginning of the official ceremony speeches were delivered by HRH Crown Prince Alexander, Prof. Dr. Tomislav Stantic, State Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Svetlana Vukajlovic, Director of Republic Fund for Health Insurance, Prof. Dr. Afksendios Kalangos, Prof. Dr. Ida Jovanovic and HRH Crown Princess Katherine.

In her speech Princess Katherine emphasized: “This is a great day for me. Today we opened the first Unit for Congenital Hear Diseases in Tirsova and this is best way possible mark the seventh anniversary of the endeavors and efforts of my Foundation. I would like to thank everyone that has continuously helped us over the past years. I realize that our visions and projects are sometimes very demanding, especially to the people that are trying to follow us. When we consider how many lives are saved and how many peoples lives are changed for the better I realize that this is the only thing that really matters. My heart is full, when I know I am on the right track and that I can stand here facing all of you with that I will continue working relentlessly to make a difference no matter what”. As a part of the ceremony guests had the pleasure to enjoy in the wonderful performance of Leontina’s children’s Choir “Carolija”.

The HRH Crown Princess Foundation was established in Belgrade in August 2001, immediately upon the return of HRH Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine to their homeland, after more than 50 years in exile. The main goal of the Foundation is to continue and expand the tradition of humanitarian work, initiated in London in 1993, when Lifeline Humanitarian Organization was founded, and during all the years of conflict in the former Yugoslavia, helped all those in need, regardless of religion or ethnic origin. Today Lifeline Humanitarian Organization, which is under the patronage of HRH Crown Princess Katherine, has offices in New York, Chicago, Toronto, London and Athens, and all its activities are coordinated with the HRH Princess Katherine Foundation.
