TRH Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine visited the “Sremčica” Institution for Children and Youth and officially delivered a very valuable and a much-needed donation, which will substantially contribute to improving the living conditions of the residents.
This most recent aid was made possible through a generous $100,000 grant from Tauck, supporting the humanitarian work of the Lifeline Humanitarian Organization of Chicago, which is under HRH Crown Princess Katherine’s patronage for over 30 years.
The grant funded the complete renovation of four large bathrooms and four toilet facilities in the Women’s Pavilion of the institution, which had remained largely unchanged since the facility opened in 1969. The works involved the removal of existing fixtures and fittings, preparation and reconstruction of the areas, and the installation of new plumbing and drainage systems, upgraded electrical installations and new lighting, waterproofing, tiling, and sanitary fixtures.
The renovation included 12 new shower cubicles, 32 washbasins, 8 WC units, 16 new doors, 4 wooden shelves, and 8 new water heaters, together with all necessary works to bring the facilities up to improved standards of safety and hygiene. The project has significantly improved the functionality and dignity of living conditions, aligning them with basic human rights principles and standards of care for vulnerable populations.

We are very happy to see this important project completed and to know that it will benefit the young women who live here for many years to come.
