Royal Couple in humanitarian visit to Nis, Knez Selo and Gornja Toponica

Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine were today in a humanitarian visit to Nis, Knez Selo and Gornja Toponica today.

The Royal Couple, accompanied by Dr. Elaine Laycock, health director of Lifeline London Humanitarian Organization whose patron is Crown Princess Katherine, and Dr Julia Palmer first visited the Nis Clinical Center, where they delivered a high frequency oscillating fan worth 40,000 euros for the pediatric surgery ward. The funds for the purchase of this valuable equipment were raised with the “Help for Babies” program which was realized in cooperation between the Humanitarian Foundation of HRH Crown Princess Katherine and the Prva V show “Evening with Ivan Ivanovic”. The Royal Couple delivered sweets, toys and school supplies to the children who are at the pediatric surgery ward.

The Crown Prince, Crown Princess, Dr Laycock and Dr Palmer then visited the Clinic for Pulmonary Diseases in Knez Selo, which thanks to Dr. Laycock received a twelve channel ECG machine. After the visit to this health institution, Their Royal Highnesses visited the “City Garden” at the Nis Fortress, where they were welcomed by the mayor of Nis, prof. dr Zoran Perisis, and the director of JKP “Mediana” Mr. Bratislav Vuckovic. A bench has been set in memory of the deceased father of Dr. Julia Palmer, benefactress from Great Britain who, along with Dr. Laycock aids and assists the Department of Pulmonary Diseases in Knez Selo.

After visiting the City Garden Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine visited the Special Psychiatric Hospital in Gornja Toponica which received medical equipment and a blood analyzer. Then they visited the kindergarten “Svrca” in Gornji Matejevac with 90 children and delivered four air conditioners and toys.

Crown Prince Alexander said he was very happy when he and his family have the ability to help the institutions of vital importance for our citizens, and all the institutions that they had the opportunity to visit today are very significant and important.

“I am very proud of the humanitarian work of my wife’s Foundation, which makes every effort to assist the health care institutions and all those who need help” – said the Crown Prince.

The Crown Prince thanked the Mayor of Nis Professor Zoran Kostic on the cordial and warm welcome and said that the Royal House and the city of Nis have very fruitful long time cooperation to the benefit of all citizens of this beautiful city on the Nisava river.

Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Katherine expressed her gratitude first of all to Mr. Ivan Ivanovic, who through his TV show offers full support to many humanitarian projects, and who launched “Help for Babies” with her humanitarian Foundation.

“I thank very much Ivan for putting his popularity at the service of humanity, but I also thank all the citizens who responded to our call to help equip children’s palliative care units in Novi Sad, Nis and Belgrade” – said Crown Princess Katherine. She thanked Dr. Elaine Laycock for her generous assistance that she has been providing for the projects of the Crown Princess ‘s Foundation for 17 years now.
